What Are Full Day Tours in Cusco?

A full day tour is the most popular and efficient way to explore the major attractions around Cusco and the surrounding region. Departing early in the morning and returning in the late afternoon or evening, these tours pack an entire destination into a single, well-organized day without requiring you to manage logistics, transport, or entry tickets on your own.

Cusco sits at the heart of one of the most archaeologically and naturally rich regions on Earth. Within a radius of just a few hours, you can visit Machu Picchu, the most famous Inca citadel in the world; the Sacred Valley of the Incas, dotted with ancient terraces and colonial markets; Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), a geological wonder of multicolored mineral stripes at 5,200 m; the Maras Salt Mines and Moray agricultural circles; and of course Cusco City itself, with its blend of Inca stonework and Spanish baroque architecture.

All our full day tours include professional bilingual guides, comfortable transport, and entrance fees. Group sizes are kept small to ensure a personal and immersive experience. Whether you have one day or seven, our full day options let you build a complete Cusco itinerary at your own pace.

Key facts at a glance: Depart from Cusco · Duration 8–12 hours · Certified bilingual guides · Entrance fees included · Small group sizes · Available every day of the year.

🏛️ Machu Picchu

The crown jewel of Inca civilization and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A full day tour from Cusco includes the scenic train through the Urubamba canyon, a bus up to the citadel entrance, and a guided tour of the terraces, temples, and plazas of this extraordinary 15th-century sanctuary perched above the clouds at 2,430 m.

🌄 Sacred Valley

A full day through the Sacred Valley of the Incas takes you to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, the colorful textile market of Pisac, the circular agricultural terraces of Moray, and the ancient salt evaporation ponds of Maras. Lunch is usually included at a local restaurant in the valley.

🌈 Rainbow Mountain

Vinicunca, or Rainbow Mountain, is one of Peru's most dramatic natural spectacles. Located at 5,200 m above sea level in the Andes southeast of Cusco, its slopes are painted in vivid stripes of red, yellow, green, and purple by exposed mineral deposits. The hike is challenging but deeply rewarding, with unforgettable panoramic views of surrounding snowcapped peaks.

🏙️ Cusco City Tour

Explore the Imperial City on a half or full day guided walk through its most iconic landmarks: the Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), the Plaza de Armas and its baroque cathedral, the Inca market of San Pedro, and the hilltop fortress of Sacsayhuamán with its colossal stone walls. A perfect introduction to Cusco's layered history.

👮 Certified Local Guides

Every full day tour is led by a licensed bilingual guide (English/Spanish) with deep expertise in Andean history, archaeology, and ecology. Our guides are not just narrators they are storytellers who connect you with the living culture of the Inca world. Small group sizes (max 12–16 people) ensure a meaningful, unhurried experience at every site.

Best Time to Take a Full Day Tour in Cusco

Cusco's climate has two well-defined seasons: a dry season (May to October) and a rainy season (November to April). Both have their charms, but your choice of season will affect visibility, trail conditions, and crowd levels at major sites.

May – June
⭐ Ideal — clear skies, lush landscapes after the rains. Best light for photography at Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain.
July – August
⭐ Peak season — driest and most stable weather. Coldest nights in Cusco but perfect daytime conditions. Most visitors.
Sept – Oct
✅ Shoulder season — fewer crowds, occasional afternoon showers, still excellent overall. Great value.
April
✅ End of rains — intensely green valleys, lower prices, fewer tourists. Some muddy trails on Rainbow Mountain.
Nov – Jan
🌧️ Rainy season — possible afternoon downpours. Machu Picchu can be foggy. Lower demand and lower prices.
Feb – Mar
🌧️ Wettest months — heavy rains likely. Inca Trail closes in February. Full day tours still operate but with rain gear.

Tip: For Rainbow Mountain, the dry season (May–October) is essential — heavy rains in the wet season can obscure the colors entirely and make the trail dangerously slippery. For Machu Picchu, morning visits offer the best light and fewest crowds regardless of the season.

Tips for Your Full Day Tour

⏰ Start Early

Most full day tours depart between 5:00 and 7:00 AM from central Cusco. An early start means arriving at sites before the midday crowds, enjoying better light for photography, and having more energy for walking. Set your alarm and lay out your gear the night before.

🏔️ Acclimatize First

Cusco sits at 3,400 m above sea level. If you've just arrived, spend at least 1–2 days resting and acclimatizing before tackling Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m) or any physically demanding tour. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol on your first day, and consider coca tea — it genuinely helps.

🧴 Sun & Rain Protection

The Andean sun at high altitude is intense even on cloudy days. Bring SPF 50+ sunscreen, UV sunglasses, and a hat. A lightweight waterproof jacket is essential year-round in Cusco, as afternoon showers can appear unexpectedly even in the dry season.

💧 Stay Hydrated

Drink at least 2–3 litres of water throughout the day. At high altitude, dehydration accelerates altitude sickness symptoms. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it at your hotel before departure. Avoid heavy meals the night before a demanding tour like Rainbow Mountain.

📷 Machu Picchu Ticket

Entry to Machu Picchu requires an advance online ticket tied to a specific date and time slot. Tickets frequently sell out weeks or months in advance, especially from May to September. When you book your full day tour with us, we handle the ticket reservation for you — just let us know your preferred date as early as possible.

👟 Comfortable Footwear

Wear comfortable, broken-in walking shoes or light hiking boots with good grip. The cobblestone streets of Cusco, the terraces of Ollantaytambo, and the paths of Machu Picchu are all uneven and steep in places. Sandals and dress shoes are not recommended. Bring a small daypack for water, snacks, and a light jacket.
