Experience the most important celebration of the Inca calendar: Inti Raymi, or the “Festival of the Sun”. This unique event is one of the most outstanding celebrations of the year worldwide and represents an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Incas while enjoying the breathtaking natural beauty of the Andes.

Since its discovery on July 24, 1911, by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, Machu Picchu has been regarded, due to its astonishing magnificence and harmonious construction, as one of the most important architectural and archaeological monuments on the planet. This citadel is surrounded by mystery, as archaeologists have not yet fully deciphered its history or original function. Built by the Incas in a magical geographical setting where the Andean and Amazonian worlds converge, this stone city stretches nearly one kilometer in length.

Detailed Itinerary: Cusco Sun Festival

Day 1: DAY 1: CUSCO CITY TOUR

The first day begins in the city of Cusco. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting to accompany you to your hotel. After the corresponding rest, our transport will pick you up from the hotel to begin the city tour.

The tour starts with a visit to the Temple of the Sun, known as Qoricancha. This temple is located just a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas and was one of the most sacred sites in Inca culture. According to chroniclers, it was covered with gold sheets and housed a large golden sun. Today, it serves as the first stage of the Inti Raymi celebration.

The next destination is the fortress of Sacsayhuamán, the largest complex in the city and the main stage of the Inti Raymi. Here you can enjoy relaxed walks and natural landscapes of Cusco. After exploring it, we will make stops at the nearby sites of Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay — places of great historical significance with views representative of the Inca Empire.

Day 2: DAY 2: FULL DAY MACHU PICCHU

On the second day, we will visit Machu Picchu, one of the most important destinations of the package. Our tourist vehicle will pick you up early and take you to Ollantaytambo, where we will board the train that will bring us in approximately 2 hours to Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes.

Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the artisan market or enjoy breakfast in the area. Continuing with the itinerary, we will board the Consettur buses, which will take us directly to the Inca citadel. There, our guide will provide detailed information about the most important temples of the site. Once the guided tour is complete, there will be free time to walk around and take photographs.

At the end of the visit, we will take the Consettur buses back, followed by the train returning to the city of Cusco, with enough time to rest before the main day.

DAY 2: FULL DAY MACHU PICCHU

Day 3: DAY 3: INTI RAYMI FESTIVAL

The day of the Inti Raymi festival will begin early at 8:00 a.m., in order to get settled and witness the first stage of the celebration at Qoricancha. This performance starts at 9:00 a.m. and is one of the most appreciated by the people of Cusco, as it takes place in a central location with a more comfortable climate. It concludes approximately between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.

After this performance, there will be free time to walk around the area. At the time agreed upon with the guide, we will head to a traditional restaurant where you can try local Cusco cuisine. Afterwards, we will move to the main stage of the Inti Raymi at the fortress of Sacsayhuamán. Our transport will take us there and wait until the performance concludes. The event at Sacsayhuamán generally takes place between 3:00 and 5:30 p.m., so it is recommended to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
