Introduction
Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, is a destination that combines history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes at every corner. This 6-day itinerary is designed to take you to the most iconic places in the region, from sacred temples and Inca fortresses to hidden natural wonders in the Andes. You will start by exploring the historic center of Cusco and its surroundings, visiting impressive archaeological sites such as Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay, as well as the famous Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha). You will also tour the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a fertile land filled with agricultural terraces, traditional villages, and Inca constructions such as Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, and Moray, which were key to the expansion of the Tahuantinsuyo.
But the journey doesn't stop there. You will have the opportunity to discover natural wonders such as the Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), a unique geological formation in the world that reaches 5,020 m.a.s.l., and the spectacular Humantay Lake, whose turquoise waters contrast with the towering snow-capped peaks of the Andes at over 4,300 m.a.s.l.. The highlight of the adventure will be the visit to Machu Picchu, the majestic Inca citadel considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Arrival in the city of Cusco, reception at the airport or bus terminal; we will be waiting with a sign with your name and then transfer you in our tourist vehicle to the selected hotel.
At 6:30 in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in our bus and begin our visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After a 40-minute journey north of Cusco, we will arrive at the archaeological center of Chinchero, a living town that still preserves its original Inca layout and is located in an important agricultural area. The church and tower date back to colonial times, built on the foundations of Inca temples. Local artisans offer handmade textiles, using ancestral techniques. After our visit, we will continue by bus to Moray, a circular system of agricultural terraces built by taking advantage of the natural depressions in the land. These terraces created microclimates and were used for experimental purposes, such as plant domestication, acclimatization, hybridization, and general agricultural research.
One of the most spectacular geological formations in the world, the famous Vinicunca Mountain, also known as the Rainbow Mountain or Seven-Color Mountain, displays a magical blend of colors on its surface that captivate travelers and delight the eyes.
At the scheduled time, transfer to the train station to begin our journey to the citadel of Machu Picchu. After a 2-hour ride, we will arrive at the Machu Picchu Pueblo station, where we will board buses that will take us to the Lost City of the Incas, “Machu Picchu,” the most famous example of Inca architecture, discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham.
Our Humantay Lake tour begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 4:30 AM. We will board our tourist transport and embark on a journey to Mollepata, a trip that takes around 2 hours. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a delicious and energizing breakfast.
